Sharjah truly is a treasure trove of indoor attractions that blend entertainment and education, especially for young children. The Sharjah Aquarium and Maritime Museum are two such gems, conveniently located next to each other and accessible with a single-entry ticket. I highly recommend visiting both, as each offers a unique experience. A playground situated between the two buildings adds an extra layer of fun for the little ones.
The Sharjah Aquarium is a beautifully designed facility that showcases a wide array of marine life alongside local history. Several rooms feature large pools and aquariums built into the walls, ceilings, and even floors, creating an immersive experience. Interactive screens add an educational touch, while the exhibits range from local sea life to exotic creatures, fossils, and stunning corals. Walking through the aquarium is a delightful experience for the whole family. At the exit, you’ll find a small café, a seating area, and a souvenir shop. The terrace, which overlooks the Sharjah beachfront, is a perfect spot to relax with a coffee or sweet treat during the cooler months.
The Maritime Museum, housed in a spacious hall, offers a fascinating glimpse into the fishing and seafaring traditions that have sustained the local population for thousands of years. The exhibits feature everything from simple boats to intricately crafted galleys, transporting visitors back to a time when life in the Arabian Peninsula revolved around the sea. The centerpiece of the museum is a stunning, large pearling boat, surrounded by an array of tools and equipment used in the region's historic pearl trade.
We had a wonderful afternoon exploring these two attractions. Even on a summer weekend, the facilities were pleasantly uncrowded, allowing us plenty of time to wander, take photos, and soak in all the fascinating details.
