It's May, and after surviving the first crazy six months with a newborn and a toddler, we're ready to be exhausted, sleep-deprived, and happy in a place that offers fantastic food, impeccable service, perfect weather, and everything within reach so we don’t have to leave the resort. We also want a short direct flight, no time change, and no long car trips to our destination. Enter Seychelles!
We booked our flight and hotel through Emirates Holidays and embarked on our first holiday as a family of four at the wonderful Kempinski Seychelles Resort on Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles. Friendly taxi drivers awaited us at the charming little airport, and after a comfortable 30-minute drive, we arrived at our home for the next seven days.
Our ground-floor room was spacious, designed in a beautiful modern colonial style. The terrace led to a large open park that stretched to the resort’s picture-perfect beach, giving us the freedom to move around just steps from our bedroom.
Each morning, we indulged in a fantastic breakfast with a spread of fresh local fruits and vegetables (and every other breakfast item you could possibly want), followed by a swim and playtime along the resort's private bay. The complimentary paddleboards and surfboards provided endless fun, especially for our 3-year-old, who loved exploring all the exciting activities the resort had to offer.
We often visited the wonderful kids’ club, which featured a range of fun and creative activities every hour, from crafting and painting to feeding the giant turtles that lived in a large enclosure next to the resort.
Every evening, a fantastic buffet with daily-changing dishes was offered in the main restaurant, while the Windsong Beach Restaurant served a wide selection of dishes all day long, including some delicious Seychellois options. The Planters Lounge, overlooking the beautiful resort, offered a very tasty high tea, which was perfect as an early dinner for us.
My favorite part of the resort was undoubtedly its own hill, ‘Mount Kempinski,’ with its hiking trails through the jungle to the top. After about 30 minutes of walking along an adventurous little path, we were rewarded with a stunning view of Baie Lazare, one of the most beautiful beaches on Mahé, featuring the famous rounded granite rocks of the Seychelles. The resort even offers daily yoga sessions at the top, but I was far too exhausted to join one. I bet they’re amazing.
The resort also offered a variety of tours throughout the islands, but with kids that small, we chose to stay put and enjoy quality time together. For us, the Kempinski Seychelles Resort was everything we had hoped for and the perfect choice for our small family. We've since returned to Seychelles to explore more of this unique island paradise. You can read more about it here on my blog in the travel section.
